Wallpaper Removal

Wallpaper removal can be very tricky since it does have the potential to be a painstakingly-slow process. It can be difficult to estimate accurately if we don't know how it was installed. For example, if the walls were primed or "sized", it normally comes off pretty well since the primer/sizing creates a seal that prevents the adhesive from penetrating into the drywall or plaster. If the wallpaper was installed without primer, the underlying substrate can get damaged because the paste/glue/adhesive will penetrate the face of the drywall or into the plaster. We have pretty much mastered the art of wallpaper removal over the last 24+ years. We've encountered all variations and have developed all types of tricks and tecniques to get the paper off. Once we determine what technique is best suitable, the paper almost always comes off. *It is not advisable to paint over the paper since it can pose future problems during subsequent paint jobs. Once the paper is stripped, the walls are always primed and skimmed as needed to prepare your walls for easy paint jobs for years to come.
*Should you ever paint over wallpaper?? We have only done it once in 24 years. It is not recommended, but can be done using a shellac primer first. The seams are then hidden with compound. If we are asked to paint over wallpaper, our warranty will become void since it goes against standard practices and the paper can always bubble right away or down the road.
